Milos
Milos is a volcanic island located within the northern Aegean, known not only for the statue of Aphrodite (Venus) found on island in 1820 by one of the French sailor, but for its geological wealth as well. It has warm soils, water vapors and thermal springs.

The thermal waters of Milos have been used for medical purposes for millenniums. Hippocrates in his "Peri Epidimion" mentioned the use of thermal springs of Milos for dermatitis and obesity.
A volcanic environment and the geothermal activity of the Milos island generate small thermal springs which are situated all over the island at various locations. Many of them are in the sea close to the coast.
Most popular hot springs are located on the beaches Alikes, Provatas, Skinopi, Paliochori, Tria Pigadia, Kanava. You can find there fumaroles (an opening in or near a volcano, through which hot sulphurous gases emerge). Enjoy swimming in warm water the whole year round!
Of all the hot springs, the officially recognized are Loutra Lakkou "Lakkos bath" at Adamas, Loutra Makrinou (Harou), and healing spring Alykes, located near Adamas ).
Properties of the thermal springs of Milos:
The most well known are the thermal mineral baths in Adamas called Loutra Lakkou (now days - The Cave of Hippocrates), which was mentioned by Herodotus as a cure for skin diseases. It is also recommended for neuro-arthritis and osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, muscle pain, neuralgia and rheumatism.

Loutra Alyke/Aliki:
Located north of Aliki in a low cave with a narrow entrance. The spring is chlorinated and it flows into an one meter deep pit which is full of water and mud. Temperature: 28-40 C⁰ Composition: chlorinated, radioactive.
Now days the cave is walled and does not work.
"Loutra Alyke/Aliki", was recommended for women's diseases and infertility. Thermal Springs of Alyke/Aliki, opposite to Milos power plant, in the sea, seems to generate the same water type as in cave!
The water has a temperature from 35 to 41° C, and the well has a basis of sodium chloride
pH = 6,8
The Water contains: Sodium(Na), Chlorine(Cl), Potassium (K), Fluorine(F), Bromine (Br); Sulphuric and Hydrocarbonic ions
In ancient time thermal Springs of Milos was to treat skin diseases, due to their sulfur content.
Loutra Makrinou (Harou):
This thermal mineral baths of Makrinou (Harou) located also in Adamas and have the following properties:
Radioactive saltwater spring
Temperature: 36,7°C, pH = 7,8
The Water contains: Radonium (Rn)
Chemical elements: Potassium(K), Sodium(Na), Calcium(Ca), Magnesium(Mg), as well as Chlorine(Cl), Strontioum(Sr); Sulphuric ions(H2S), Sulfates(SO4), Silica(SiO2), Carbon dioxide(CO2).

Milos - "the Island of Colors" boasts a magnificent colorful landscape, more than 40 exotic beaches, thanks to its splendid, manifold beauties of volcanic origin.
